When we began the process of developing the plans for the renovation of the marquees on the historic Fox Oakland Theater, we did a great deal of research into historic marquees and the sign contractors who renovate them. From our inquiries we found that one company has been involved in a large number of these projects and was highly recommended to us by others who have used them to do this type of work – Wagner Electric Sign Company.
We also found it significant that Wagner Sign is the only sign company to be a member of the League of Historic American Theatres, a not-for-profit association dedicated to the rehabilitation of historic theatres across North America.
With all of the work our firm has put into developing the plans and specifications for this project, we have a strong vested interest in seeing the work done by a highly qualified company who will do the work according to the contract documents and in such a way that the marquees will be a lasting asset to the people of the City of Oakland.
The reason for this letter is to ask you to do whatever you can to expedite Carl Wagner, Jr’s application for a C-45 state license. Mr. Wagner is the Chairman and CEO of Wagner Signs. His company has been in business since 1954 and has done the kind of work required by the City of Oakland for this project in many other states. However, he is licensed in the State of Ohio, but not the State of California.
Since it is important to the City that this project be completed expeditiously, anything you can do to minimize the time necessary for Mr. Wagner to acquire his license will be a great help to the City’s process of selecting the most competent contractor. Wagner Sign has provided me with a great deal of assistance in the development of the plans and specifications for this project. They know the project requirements in detail and, we believe, would be able to complete the work in a minimum of time with a high degree of quality, once they have been licensed in California.
